Organization Description

The European Marine Board (EMB) is a pan-European network of organizations involved in marine research, including research funding organizations, research performing organizations, and consortia of third-level institutes. Established in 1995, EMB serves as the leading European think tank in marine science policy, providing a platform for member organizations to collaborate on common priorities and advance marine research. It aims to bridge the gap between science and policy to address future marine science challenges. In 2016, EMB became an independent international non-profit organization under Belgian law, fully separating from the European Science Foundation (ESF) in 2017. The EMB Secretariat is located at the InnovOcean site in Ostend, Belgium, with support from the Flemish Government through the Flanders Marine Institute (VLIZ).
