Organization Description

Created by the Third United Nations Conference on the Law of the Sea mandate, the ITLOS-International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea operates as an intergovernmental organization.

ITLOS was recognised by the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea and signed on 10 December 1982, at Montego Bay, Jamaica. The ITLOS is one of four dispute resolution mechanisms in Article 287 of the UNCLOS. Read more about ITLOS on its official website.
