The Roux Prize 2023 by University of Washington School of Medicine, The Institute for Health Metrics & Evaluation is now accepting nominations. The Roux Prize was established to identify people or organizations worldwide who have used health evidence in audacious, creative, and significant ways.
The $100,000 Roux Prize was instituted by David and Barbara Roux in 2013 to recognize creativity in the use of disease burden research. In addition to highlighting what is possible when visionaries utilize health evidence to impact lives, the award honors the individual who has used health evidence in novel ways to improve the health of others.

Benefits
- The winners will utilize the $100,000 reward for personal use only. A medal and an acknowledgment letter will also be given.
- If a group wins the award rather than a specific person, the money will be split equally among the group members. Each will be given a medal and an award citation.
Eligibility
- IHME accepts nominations from all across the world.
- Although groups are eligible, individuals are given preference.
- Self-nominations should be avoided.
- You cannot apply if you are a current full-time faculty member, fellow, or employee of IHME or the University of Washington.
Selection Criteria
There are two phases involved in choosing the Roux Prize recipient. First, all submissions are evaluated, and the finalists are selected by the Roux Prize Nomination Committee, which comprises eminent figures in population health research, policy, and practice. Following a study of the candidates, the Roux Prize Nomination Board chooses the winner.
Application Procedure
Details on the nomination form include the following:
- Title, name, degrees, job or function, organization, email, phone number, and physical address of the nominee.
- Statement of Nomination (1000 Words Maximum): You should explain why you believe this individual deserves the Roux Prize in the nomination statement. The most credible nominations are those that:
- Describe the size and importance of the issue the candidate is addressing.
- Tell them about the candidate’s use of data to enhance public health. Please provide concrete examples to demonstrate the significance of the evidence in obtaining the desired result and the magnitude and importance of the population effect.
- Describe the candidate and the circumstances surrounding their work, including any challenges they had to overcome to get the desired result.
- Describe any novel techniques the nominee used while using evidence.
- Specify the advantages of the award for the nominee.
- Optional: supporting documents. You may provide any records that demonstrate the nominee’s accomplishments, particularly those that show how the candidate used data to enhance population health or the significance and effect of the candidate’s work. Peer-reviewed articles, news stories, letters of support, etc., might fall under this category. (5 at most)
- Title, name, degrees, job or function, organization, email, phone number, and physical address of the nominee.
- Optional: Title, name, degrees, job or function, organization, email, phone number, and physical address of co-nominators.
