On March 16 this year, the “Orient” Scientific Center for Oriental Journalism was opened at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The Faculty of Journalism of KazNU and the Kazakh-Afghan Development and Partnership Association “AFG-QAZ” joined together in the establishment of the “Orient” Journalism Center.

Since 2018, the Kazakh-Afghan Development and Partnership Association “AFG-QAZ” has been closely cooperating with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, where Afghan students continue to study on scholarship under the State Educational Program of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan (IRA). The Association for Development and Partnership “AFG-QAZ” is always actively involved in the activities of the Faculty of Journalism, such as Winter and Summer Schools of Journalism, student conferences and forums.

The activities of the Orient Center will cover the countries of the Near and Middle East, Central Asia, including Afghanistan and Kazakhstan. The aim of the Center is to integrate journalists from different countries and to promote the professionalism of future professional journalists.

According to O. Bitimov, Chairman of the AFG-QAZ Association: “The main goal of the Orient Center is to coordinate educational, cultural, educational, research and information-image activities for the preservation, formation and dissemination of knowledge and practical results in the field of journalism through conducting relevant research, organizational and other activities. ”

The AFG-QAZ Association, together with the Orient Center, plans to attract the opportunities of the media and expert communities of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the IRA for mutual informing audiences about important events in the socio-political and socio-economic life of our countries.

Counterparties from the Central Asian region and Afghanistan are already showing practical interest in the Orient Center. In the future, Orient intends to cooperate with Kazakhstani and international organizations working on the development of journalism, ensuring the rights and freedoms of journalists.
