Financial Aids of the H.J. Heinz Fellowships
The selected fellows will benefit from the H.J. Heinz Fellowships as follows:
- Living stipend of $19,200 (monthly installments)
- $1,000 program and professional activities fund
Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must be:
- Accepted into a Master’s program in specified schools.
- Completed an undergraduate university degree
- Proficiency in English.
- Preference goes to applicants in the early or mid stages of their careers.
- It is intended for practitioners and policymakers, not basic academic research, medical research, or academic sabbaticals.
Fellows Responsibilities
Please read these highlights as activities to undertake during the Fellowship program:
- During the residency, Fellows should present at least one topic related to their professional experience to University members.
- Fellows are strongly encouraged to engage in community outreach by lecturing about their home country to high school students or interested adults.
- Accepting the grant constitutes an agreement between the Fellow and the University.
- Grantees must complete the full tenure of the award, with exceptions for unforeseen emergencies.
- Early termination or departure without University consent may require reimbursement for expenditures made on the grantee’s behalf.
Post-Fellowship Requirements
After completing the H.J. Heinz Fellowships, fellows must:
- Submit a comprehensive final report detailing their Fellowship activities and plans upon returning home.
- Reports are shared with University of Pittsburgh program officials and H.J. Heinz Company Foundation representatives, serving as references for incoming Fellows.
- Upon acceptance of the final report, Fellows receive a Heinz Program certificate from the UCIS.
Selection Process
- Candidates express interest during the Master’s program application.
- Winners will receive a notification in May.
- The fellowship year begins on August 1.
- The fellowship year ends on June 30.
