Opportunity Description
The Gilbert and Marcia Kotzen Scholars Program is a competitive, merit-based grant that recognizes the most outstanding and talented students at Simmons University who are interested in a transformative education. This is Simmons’ most distinguished award, recognizing distinction in study abroad, scholarly research, and intellectual curiosity.
The Kotzen Scholarship covers full tuition, as well as lodging, room, and board. This scholarship is offered for four years of full-time undergraduate education and replaces any previously awarded merit scholarship.

Essay prompts:
- Formal essay: Write an essay in which you describe your leadership style, giving specific examples to show what kinds of experiences have shaped you as a leader, and what type of leader you think you will become at Simmons
Note: Your essay must be in Word format and no more than 300-500 words
How to apply?
The application consists of a formal essay in response to the essay prompt. Students should submit their essay through the Common Application or in PDF or Word Doc via email with the subject line “Simmons Distinguished Scholar Award application” by December 1. Please note that each document page should include the student’s full name and date of birth.
