Opportunity Description

The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) Generation Connect Young Leadership Program (GCYLP) is a dynamic initiative to engage, empower, and inspire young digital leaders and changemakers worldwide. In partnership with Huawei, the program supports young visionaries in implementing innovative, community-driven projects to foster a more inclusive and empowered digital future.

GCYLP aims to empower young digital leaders globally. Each year, 30 fellows are selected to receive mentorship, training, and financial assistance to implement digital development projects in their communities worldwide. The program is conducted exclusively in English.

Benefits and Financial Aids

Applicants will benefit from the GCYLP as follows:

  • Virtual mentorship and leadership training sessions by ITU and Huawei.
  • Participation in an in-person global training week in Geneva, Switzerland in July 2026
  • Up to a USD 10,000 grant for implementing digital development projects:
    • Initial USD 5,000 grant for all selected fellows.
    • An additional USD 5,000 grant for the most impactful projects.

Eligibility Criteria

If you wish to apply for the Generation Connect Young Leadership Program (GCYLP), please review these requirements:

  • The age between 18 and 28 is by the application deadline.
  • Interest in leading and implementing a digital development project.
  • Enrolled in or recently graduated from a STEM or STEM-related academic program.
  • Proficiency in English, the program’s main language.

Selection Process

Initial screening of applications by ITU and Huawei staff.

  • Shortlisted candidates will be notified by May 2026. They must submit an ID, a video, and two references within a week.
  • The GCYLP Jury will select 30 fellows, with the final results announced by June 2026.
