Organization Description
The Economist Educational Foundation is an independent charity that blends educational expertise with The Economist’s journalistic skills. It focuses on empowering disadvantaged children with the knowledge and critical thinking abilities needed to navigate complex social, environmental, and media challenges. The Foundation supports teachers in engaging students with news discussions, helping them develop effective communication and critical analysis skills.
The Foundation’s flagship program, Topical Talk, offers high-quality resources for in-depth classroom discussions on global issues. These resources are created by experienced educators and The Economist’s journalists, enabling students to explore major topics in-depth. Additionally, the Foundation runs the Topical Talk Festival, the world’s largest news festival for children, offering opportunities for students to engage in discussions, live events, and competitions.
Topical Talk Prizes also provide students with a platform to voice their opinions and win feedback from Economist journalists. The Foundation supports schools and communities with specialized training and ongoing assistance to enhance students’ critical thinking and communication skills.
