Organization Description

City University of Hong Kong (CityU) is a public research university in Kowloon, Hong Kong. It was founded in 1984 as the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong and became a fully accredited university in 1994.

CityU has nine main schools offering programs in business, science, engineering, liberal arts, social sciences, law, and veterinary medicine. It also includes the Chow Yei Ching School of Graduate Studies, CityU Shenzhen Research Institute, and the Hong Kong Institute for Advanced Study.

CityU’s origins trace back to the early 1980s when calls for a “second polytechnic” arose after the establishment of the Hong Kong Polytechnic in 1972. The City Polytechnic of Hong Kong opened on October 8, 1984, with 480 full-time and 680 part-time students, quickly reaching full enrollment.
