Unisfere, established in 2022 as an independent and non-governmental initiative, focuses on research and sustainable development. primary goal of Unesfere is to contribute to the localization and implementation of sustainable development through various avenues such as youth empowerment, research, public awareness, and knowledge sharing.

Fellowship Overview:

 

The University Research Fellowship, a program offered by Unisfere, is designed to enhance the research, digital literacy, critical thinking, communication, and problem-solving skills of bachelor students and recent graduates. The initiative aims to foster a research culture and promote sustainable development in Afghanistan. Through this fellowship, participants will have the opportunity to acquire research and digital skills, addressing community challenges to support sustainable development. The fellowship seeks to equip young individuals with research knowledge and skills, making their research accessible to decision-makers, donors, and the public to encourage contributions to sustainable development.

Fellowship  phases:
First phase: late January 2024 to March
Second phase: April to August 2024

 

UNISFERE Research Fellowship Benefits:

Selected fellows will benefit from the fellowship as the following:

– Learning workshops led by international professors and experts.

– Gain research knowledge, skills, and experience under the guidance of international academic researchers.

– Facilitation of research papers for fellows successfully completing the second phase to be published in international journals.

– Receive guidance on higher education journeys, scholarships, and applications from higher education and scholarship advisors (for alumni fellows).

– Opportunities for paid or unpaid internships with partner NGOs and institutions.

– Free access/enrollment in various educational programs and scholarships offered by partners.

 

Eligibility Criteria:

 

– Students in Afghanistan currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree or recent graduates (within three years) in any field of study.

– Proficiency in English to write a research report and communicate effectively.

– Demonstrate a commitment to conducting research aligned with specified research areas and broader sustainable development topics.

– Be under the age of 35 years at the start of the program.

– Access to the internet and email for participation in the online aspects of the program and communication with mentors.

– Non-participation in the second phase of the University Research Fellowship Afghanistan cohort 2023.

Selection Criteria:

– Motivation to conduct academic research.

– Proficiency in English for writing research reports and effective communication.

 

Fellowship Phases:

– First Phase: Workshops, topic selection, and proposal development.

– Second Phase: Conducting research, writing the research report, presentation, and defense.

 

Mentors:

Mentors are academic researchers from different parts of the world with a research background, guiding fellows through the research process. Regular communication with assigned fellows occurs through online meetings, email, WhatsApp, or other agreed-upon methods.

 

Unisfere Research Journal:

Fellows’ research will be published in Unisfere’s research journal, including profiles of fellows and special links to the research articles. The journal, created recently on the Unisfere website, aims to publish research articles related to sustainable development.
