About the competition

Submissions are now open for the One Photo Challenge Photography Competition_ the biggest architectural photography contest that is held annually by Architizer. The competition honors powerful photographs of architecture that capture the essence of a place and tell something new or unprecedented about our surroundings and communicate a larger story about the meaning of home, city or country. You can take a photo of a building that describes what this contest is searching for (see more below).

Details of the competition

Submission deadline: there are three deadlines according to which photos can be submitted.

Early-bird date: 5 March 2021

Regular deadline: 26 March 2021

Late entry deadline: 16 April 2021

Number of finalists: 100 (of whom 2 will be the winners and the other top ten will be the runners-up)

Prizes and benefits

• Prizes: two winners (one student and one non-student) will receive $2500 each in cash prizes.
• Recognition on Architizer journal, and social media promotion
• A special interview with winners discussing their work publicized in Architizer Journal
• The ten runners-up will feature in the Winners’ Announcement and gain broad coverage across Architizer Journal & all social media channels.
• In total, (100 finalists including the winners and runners-up) will be published in a special feature “100 Photographs That Tell Powerful Stories about Architecture”.

Who can submit a photo?

• The competition accepts a submission from everyone, including both professional and amateur photographers who demonstrate a passion for photography.
• All you need to enter it is a phone or camera and a sharp eye for the world around you.

What should you submit?

• Participants can submit one photograph that powerfully displays a specific atmosphere or mood that is created by an architectural structure or space.
• The image can be taken anywhere in the world, and its theme can be at any scale. It can be taken from a wide-angle or close up, show a whole building or just a detail. As long as your photo shows part or all of a building or group of buildings, it is eligible.
• Bear in mind, the challenge is to tell a story by sending your image, so think about what narrative your photo conveys.
• Architizer encourages submitters to submit photographs that highlight architecture’s relationship with local cultural, social, political, and economic circumstances.
• Photos that have a strong sense of time and place have the best chance of success. Your photograph should have a brief description, no more than 150 words.
