About the fellowship

A project of the ILO “From Research to Action: Using Knowledge to Accelerate Progress in the Elimination of Child Labor and Forced Labor” (RTA), in cooperation with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), invites junior researchers to submit excellent research proposals on child labour, forced labour, and human trafficking. The project will offer grants to support researchers from a variety of fields to fill knowledge vacuums and obtain policy impact in the above areas. So, if you are a researcher, share your idea on the areas listed above.

What does the project include?

  • 3 Research fellowships each worth $18,000 USD for 12 months.
  • 10 Seed grant projects each amounting to up to $10,000 USD for 9 months.

Eligibilities

Who can apply?

  • Ph.D. degree holders, Ph.D. students, or researchers with a Master’s degree who have 5 years of relevant research and teaching experience can apply to the Research Fellowship.
  • For the fellowship, applicants can be graduates of various disciplines – like, but not limited to, anthropology, child development, economics, health, public policy, psychology, sociology, gender studies and statistics.
  • The principal applicants should have an affiliation with a university or research institute.
  • Ph.D. degree holders, Ph.D. students, or Master’s students The Seed Grant.
  • Applicants from the Global South, female candidates, and underprivileged populations in the research community are encouraged to apply.

Candidates must fill out the online application form in English and send the following documents in one PDF file to rtaproject@ilo.org with the subject title “RTA fellowship application, [Last name], [first name]”.

The complete package must include:

  • A cover letter outlining the applicant’s experience and interests;
  • A comprehensive Curriculum Vitae;
  • A reference letter from the proposed supervisor;
  • Letter from the university or research institute indicating their willingness in hosting the fellow;
  • A research proposal (3-5 pages long) stipulating the work objectives, the methodology, and its relation in the field of child labour, forced labor, or human trafficking;
  • A publication list or nearly 3 academic writing examples on research areas relating to this call.
