Certain International Journals anounced Invalid by ministry of higher education in Afghanistan

The  Ministry of Higher Education in Afghanistan, under the current regime, has recently issued a directive declaring certain international journals invalid as of November 1, 2024 (corresponding to 11 Aqrab in the Afghan calendar). This decision, outlined in official document No. 351/166, was communicated to public and private universities after being approved in a meeting held on October 21, 2024, by the Scientific Commission of the Department of Research, Composition, and Translation.

The directive lists 10 journals that are no longer recognized, including “Reihan,” “Quarterly Journal of Social Sciences,” “GPR Journals,” and others, citing issues such as low-quality publications and errors in articles. Furthermore, the commission stated that any international journals publishing in more than two languages would not be accepted, and articles presented at foreign conferences would only be recognized if published in reputable journals like Scopus or Web of Science.

The Ministry also emphasized stricter regulations for licensing domestic journals labeled as “international,” mandating the establishment of websites for such publications. These decisions reflect broader restrictions on academic activities in Afghanistan under Taliban rule, leading many researchers and academics to leave the country.
