If you have an innovative solution for promoting handwashing with soap behavior, making handwashing with easier or the solution to monitor or measure it at home, in school, etc. you can apply to Wash Innovation challenge and win 5000 dollars.

What is the problem?

There are illnesses and infectious diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhea, neonatal tetanus and respiratory infection that will be prevented or reduced by handwashing with soap. According to the research studies, hand washing can reduce the risk of diarrhea by 42-47% and the risk of acute respiratory infection in children by half.

What is competition?

The challenge is designed to recognize the best innovative and implementable solutions for promoting handwashing with soap in the South Asia Region. The solution should clearly indicate how to promote handwashing with soap by mothers and caregivers during critical times including:

  • Before preparing food
  • Before feeding babies and children
  • After defecation
  • After changing baby nappies

The main focus of the challenge is towards:

  • Innovative behavior change campaigns for handwashing with soap during critical times by mothers and caregivers
  • Appropriate technologies making handwashing with soap easier and fun for mothers
  • Innovative system for the measurement and monitoring handwashing at home, in school, and health centers

 

Awards:

 

Three winners from 10 finalists who pitch their ideas in Bhutan, will receive a prize of 5000 USD each and UNICEF will expose their solution globally.
