UNICEF has announced an internship program Program Division (PD), Nutrition Section in New York, USA.  In accordance with the agenda of the Sustainable Development Goals, UNICEF has lately engaged on a wider programmatic deliberation on all forms of malnutrition, including the preclusion of overweight and obesity among children and adolescents within its Nutrition Strategy 2020-203. Moreover, it is leading the development of a program on food systems to empower children’s families, and communities to access safe, affordable, and sustainable nutrition.

Salary

  • UNICEF will pay the intern a monthly salary of 1700 dollars.

Duties and responsibilities

The intern shall work to:

  • Contribute to the organizational planning for the UN Food Systems Conference 2021, including the programming of (virtual) Food System Dialogues in 20 countries worldwide, contributing to technical gatherings, and coordinating Summit’s youth engagement.
  • Provide logistical input to the development and application of an e-learning module on overweight and obesity prevention
  • Assist UNICEF’s work on advocacy and outreach  for overweight and obesity prevention, including youth engagement angles
  • Assist with grant reporting in the form of tracking country updates, quarterly reports, and managing information in an orderly fashion.
  • Lead the preparation of professional presentations and speeches.

The intern will work with the Nutrition Section and report to the section supervisor and will be expected to participate in Nutrition Section meetings, Unit calls, as well as other UNICEF meetings of interest to the student, including the seminar series for UNICEF interns.

Qualifications

An eligible applicant should meet the below requirements:

  • Be currently studying for in a graduate degree program relating to global public health or be a recent graduate (having graduated within the past two years).
  • Show interest in nutrition, overweight & obesity prevention, non-transmissible diseases, and/or food systems preferred (such as volunteer work, academic work).
  • Possess strong attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of global health and nutrition programming is desirable.
  • Have excellent communication skills in writing and speaking, initiative, flexibility, and enthusiasm to learn.
  • Own exceptional academic standing as proven by recent university or institution records.
  • Fluency in English (writing and speaking) is mandatory combined with Proficiency in another official UN language.
  • Any past professional experience will be given additional weight.
