Opportunity Description

Applications are now open for the UNESCO World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2024. The Ministry of Culture, through the Archaeological Survey of India, will host the UNESCO World Heritage Young Professionals Forum 2024 from July 14 to 23 at the Pt. Deendayal Upadhyaya Institute of Archaeology in Greater Noida, Uttar Pradesh, India. This event, aligned with the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee and part of the UNESCO World Heritage Education Programme, focuses on the theme “World Heritage in the 21st Century: Building Capacities and Exploring Opportunities for Youth.”

The forum aims to develop young professionals’ skills in protecting, preserving, and promoting natural and cultural World Heritage. Participants will explore opportunities to implement the World Heritage Convention and learn about global World Heritage and Sustainable Development concepts. They will also experience local Indian heritage and its management. At the forum’s conclusion, attendees will present a Declaration to the 46th session of the World Heritage Committee.

Through presentations, roundtables, discussions, and site visits, attendees will explore:

  • Achievements and Challenges of the World Heritage Convention
  • Climate change’s impact on World Heritage sites
  • Innovative technologies for World Heritage promotion
  • Participative World Heritage conservation with communities
  • Sustainable tourism and development through young entrepreneurship

The forum includes theoretical and practical experiences at World Heritage properties and visits to World Heritage sites in Delhi, such as Qutb Minar, Red Fort Complex, and Humayun’s Tomb.

Eligibility Criteria and Forum Requirements

Candidates who apply for the UNESCO World Heritage Young Professionals Forum should meet the following criteria:

  • Applicants should be between 23 and 32 years old.
  • Demonstrate experience in one of these fields: World Heritage, conservation, architecture, archaeology, restoration, art history, urban planning and regeneration, climate change, tourism, and digital technology.
  • Be interested and committed to implementing the Forum outcomes in their respective countries.
  • Applicants should be committed to enhancing community engagement in managing World Heritage properties.
  • Be available for the duration of the Forum.
  • Have proficiency in English.

In addition to the general eligibility, the selection committee will consider the following elements in selecting the participants:

  • Balanced geographical representation.
  • Gender equality.
  • Diversity of professional backgrounds.
  • Capability to distribute experiences in the origin country or institution.
  • Experience and knowledge in the management practices for World Heritage sites.
