Opportunity Description

UNESCO – United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization calls for proposals for young researchers under 35 to apply for the third edition of the Silk Roads Youth Research Grant 2023. This program includes many research fields, including multidimensional and multidisciplinary proposals. The proposals do not limit to one specific region or chronology. Submitted research papers may cover one or several themes related to the Silk Roads’ shared heritage. The themes and focus areas include, but are not limited to, the followings:

  • Traditional Knowhow and Science and Technology;
  • Religion, Spirituality, and Holiness;
  • Literature and Language;
  • Arts and Music;
  • Traditional Games and Sports;
  • Economy and Trade;
  • Contemporary Issues and the Legacy of the Silk Roads

Researchers can use an interdisciplinary approach and, if possible, provide novel and dynamic ideas on the progressions of exchange along the Silk Roads and its value in contemporary societies. However, the main focus of the submitted research should be on the results of cultural interactions and exchanges. The paper must showcase the concrete resulting elements within a field, identifiable in two or more cultures along the Silk Roads.

The Silk Roads Youth Research Grant is UNESCO’s initiative with the collaboration of the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China UNESCO. This Grant is in the context of its Silk Roads and MOST Programs which are part of UNESCO’s Social and Human Sciences Program.
