Opportunity Description

Application for United Nations Sustainable Development Goals- UN SDG Actions Awards 2023 is now open to initiatives and individuals from worldwide. The program seeks creativities and people who inspire, mobilize, and connect people to drive positive change. Applicants with the potential to mobilize, inspire and connect changemakers are welcome to apply for the UN SDG Actions Awards 2023. The primary purpose of this effort is towards the vision of the UN Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2030.

It is a golden chance to apply or send a nomination by 30 April 2023 to participate in and celebrate the 2023 UN SDG Action Awards program. Winners will showcase their work globally, benefit from global exposure, and connect with a network of changemakers. 

Program Overview:

The UN SDG Action Awards is the UN SDG Action Campaign program. This program seeks individuals and initiatives to inspire, mobilize, and connect people to drive positive change.

This Campaign is after people and creativities that make a difference on the earth and Flip the Script, turning vulnerability into resilience, fear into hope, war into peace, and division into unity.  

The UN SDG Actions Awards team receives over 3,000 applications and nominations annually from over 150 countries. A high-level Panel of Judges review and select the finalists following a technical review process. The Panel consists of different sector leaders and geographies each year. The organizers will celebrate and expose finalists and winners at an inspiring and creative UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony and live stream globally.

Winner’s Recognition

The winning initiatives will go to the UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony and be widely esteemed throughout the year to inspire the growing global SDG Action community to expedite change for people and the planet. Remarkably, the Campaign will celebrate and expose finalists and winners at UN SDG Action Awards Ceremony and live stream globally.

The UN SDG Action Campaign ensures that shortlisted candidates and winners represent the sectoral and regional diversity within its applicant pool.

Eligibility and Categories of UN SDG Actions Awards 2023

Individuals with creativity and initiative can apply to one or two UN SDG Actions Awards categories. A panel of Judges will assess entries to decide if they are a good fit for one of the three categories of the UN SDG Action Awards: Mobilize, Inspire, and Connect.

MOBILIZE

This category praise initiative with the potential to turn apathy into action by mobilizing hundreds and millions of people to take action for the SDGs. High-impact initiatives are welcome to apply, including coordinated and collective actions that mobilize people and communities to Flip the Script and achieve the Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2030.

INSPIRE

Individuals and initiatives that connect the power of creativity to shift behavior for the SDGs and inspire positive change are eligible to apply for this category. Initiatives and inspirational campaigns that Flip the Script to shift individual behavior and public policies are welcome.

CONNECT

This award category will praise creativities and initiatives that can cause unity by connecting diverse sectors and partners that accelerate SDG progress. Submissions that Flip the Script and connect organizations, people, and institutions to yoke commitments towards the SDGs can apply.

Judging Criteria

The Panel of Judges will review and shortlist entries for each of the following criteria:

  • Impact: What kind of tangible impact has this initiative had? The judges particularly consider how many people are impacted by initiatives, policies/legislation changed, budgets influenced, and tangible shifts in behavior for the SDGs)
  • Approach: How is this initiative different or transformative from what has been done before? Is it a novel idea and a new way to address an issue? Is it addressing those often left behind?
  • Scalability/Replicability: Does this initiative/solution have the momentum to be expanded or be simulated to create a more significant impact? Is there any prior evidence of replication or scaling up already happening?
  • Changemaker: Has the nominees impacted well beyond their initial goal? Did they manage to inspire positive change well beyond their initial goal?

How to Apply for the UN SDG Actions Awards?

There are two categories to which applicants can apply for the UN SDG Action Awards: (1) Individuals Submit Their Initiatives, and (2) Individuals Nominate Others.

(1) Submit Applications for Mobilize, Inspire, and Connect Categories

For these categories, applicants can apply via the online application portal or by downloading the offline application form and mailing it to the following address. To submit a project or initiative for the Award, please begin by registering and filling in each application form section. Applicants can save and edit their application each time they return until they submit the completed form.
