About the award

TWAS-CAS Young Scientists Award for Frontier Science is launched newly and allocated to talented individuals who made a positive and outstanding impact in the fields supported by the award each year. The 2nd edition of the award celebrates excellent achievements in Astronomy and Cosmology. Anyone who works or lives in one of the developing countries and aged not more than 45 years can be nominated for the award.

Eligibility criteria for nomination:

Young scientists from all over the world are Eligible for the 2021 TWAS-CAS Award:

  • Applicant’s age must not be over 45 years.
  • Must be national of a developing country residing or working in a developing country for at least two years.
  • All members of the academy as well as science institutes, national research councils, universities and scientific institutions in developing and developed nations can nominate.
  • Must have made a significant achievement in the fields sponsored by the award.
  • Applicants are not allowed to nominate themselves.
  • Nominations from panel members and fellows of TWAE do not qualify for nomination.

Selection criteria:

  • Successful applicants will be selected based on scientific excellence.
  • TWAS will first conduct a pre-screening, and then it will send qualified submissions to the expert committee of review where they will make a decision regarding the final winner.

Required details and documents:

  • Nominator’s contact info.
  • Nominee’s contact details.
  • Nominee’s authorization with his/her signature (it has a form)
  • Outline of candidate’s scholarly achievements in any of the two areas in 15 to 20-word citation.
  • Details support statement describing the nominees’ contributions in astronomy and cosmology.
  • A comprehensive account of the candidate’s time spent out of his/her home country in the last two years.
  • Doctoral degree details, including the field of study, year of award, and institutions.
  • Details on any academies and societies he/she is a member of.
  • Short details of any honor or award he or she had won.
  • List of 10 most preeminent publications in an internationally acceptable format.
  • Detailed CV and the list of publications to be individually uploaded onto the site.
