Prize Overview

The annual Stellar Prize is one of the projects of The Stellar Community, which is a prestigious award for inspiring youths with extraordinary talent or skill in specific area. The award’s purpose is to empower young talents in Africa and all other parts of the world. It provides winners with the prize money and certificates. This year the Stellar Community welcomes entries in the form of poetry and short stories from young talents of all over the globe.

Prizes:

The award is divided into three categories:

1. Junior Stellar Prize (age limit:14-18, for participants inside Africa only)

• First Place Winner:  700000 Naira (2000 USD dollar)
• Second Place Winner: 400000 Naira (1200 USD dollar)
• Third Place Winner: 200000 Naira (600 USD dollar)
• Plus 4 Honorable Mentions

2. Stellar African Prize (age limit: 19-45, for participants inside Africa only)

• First Place Winner: 1 Million Naira (3000 USD dollar)
• Second Place Winner: 500000 Naira (1400 USD dollar)
• Third Place Winner: 250000 Naira (700 USD dollar)
• Plus 4 Honorable Mentions

3. The Stellar International Award (age limit: 18-45, for participants outside Africa only)

• First Place Winner: 1 Million Naira (3000 USD dollar)
• Second Place Winner: 500000 Naira (1400 USD dollar)
• Third Place Winner: 250000 Naira (700 USD dollar)
• Fourth Place Winner: 100000 Naira (300 USD dollar)
• Plus 5 Honorable Mentions

Entries for The Stellar Prize are reviewed every three years and a poet with good submissions in these years, but have not been awarded a prize, would win The Stellar Youth Award (SYA). It must be noted that no one can apply for The Stellar Youth Award (SYA). The Junior Stellar Prize entries are not considered for the SYA.

The Stellar Youth Award (Age limit: 18-45 and for participants from all over the world)

• 5 Million Naira (4,300 USD dollar)

Other benefits:

• All winners would be invited for the prize giving ceremony
• Flight costs
• Hotel accommodation
• Meals during the award ceremony
• Have their works published by The Stellar Community and receive royalties on their work
• Membership of the Stellar Community

Other costs like visa costs, would not be covered.

Eligibility:

• Be between the ages of 14 and 45 by the time of application.
• Applicants can be from anywhere in the world having any nationality.
• Poems or short stories must have not already been published.
• Short stories should not be more than 2000 words and Poems not more than 45 lines in length.
• Poems written in another language must have an English translation. In this case, length limit can be an exception.
• One can submit multiple entries.
• Submissions must be done through the official website.
• Anyone having any professional background or experience can apply.
• IEZEF or its branches employees, their relatives, and family members can not apply.
• Former Stellar Prize winners will not be considered for future Prize. But, they may still be considered for the Stellar Youth Award (SYA).
• Previous winners of SYA Award cannot apply.
• Former Junior Stellar Prize winners will not be considered for future Junior Stellar Prize but they can apply for other Stellar Prizes in the future.
• Junior Stellar Prize entries are not considered in The Stellar Youth Award (SYA) selection.
• Nominations for the annual Stellar Prize are allowed.

Submission:

Entries must be submitted online through the official IEZEF website before 11^th June 2018. Applicants need to pay the application submission fee ($5). Applicants interested to apply after June 11^th, 2018 can apply for the 2^nd round and final round bid. The deadlines are mentioned at top of this post.
