Overview

An informal multi-stakeholder group of Swiss institutions who are interested in agricultural research for development offered the Swiss Forum for International Agricultural Research program for applicants, research institutes, NGOs, private sectors, farmer’s organizations, and public agencies of developing countries. The goal of the program is information sharing between ARD stakeholders in Switzerland, Swiss ARD visibility promotion, advocacy role, serve as a national partner in international initiatives, collaboration among actors in Swiss ARD.

ARD is multi-dimensions research and addressing the agricultural development challenges of developing and emerging countries. ARD will provide the technological, economics, and institutional knowledge, and innovation contributing to sustainable development.

Any graduates and scientists of a Swiss institution working through agriculture concepts for development with a master or PhD degree and from a developing country can apply to this annual award in Switzerland.

Benefits:

  • The best Ph.D. project or team will receive 10,000 CHF.
  • The best Master thesis will receive 1000 CHF.

Purpose of the program:

  • Agricultural research for development must be supported.
  • Knowledge promotion and visibility of Swiss ARD.

Eligibilities:

If you meet the following criteria you will be eligible for the SFIAR Award:

  • Must have a close collaboration with a Swiss institution.
  • Must have citizenship of one of the low-income countries/developing countries.
  • Must have obtained your master’s degree thesis no longer than 18 months ago and for PhD must hold their project not more than three years.

Furthermore, the research work must meet one of the characteristics below:

    • Partnership, result, and effect, outreach to the farm level.
    • Development of production or steps thereof.
    • Tools or instruments that can be utilized in the local context.

These documents must be sent via email: 

  • Summary of the research about two pages (maximum), including illustrations.
  • Updated and brief CV not more than one page.
  • List of any publications, websites, referees, and further details.
  • For master thesis, pdf format of master thesis.

Note:

  • The whole documents must be in English, French, or German.
  • Incomplete documents will not be considered.
