About this scholarship

The Society of Interior Designers of Australia (SIDA) is, through its funding, awarding scholarships to interior design PhD students at the University of South Australia. Since its establishment in 1951, the Foundation has managed its resources with the purpose of advancing and furthering interior design education and practice in the country.

The initiation of the SIDA Foundation PhD Scholarship is aimed at supporting and developing PhD qualified practitioners and academics with expertise in the field of interior design.

Scholarship value:

$15,000 for a maximum of three years. ( The annual $5‚000 payment will be done in one instalment after Research Study Period One census date‚ provided that the awardee maintains full-time enrolment and satisfying academic performance).

Eligibility

·         The PhD scholarship is open to Australian Citizens, Permanent Residents of Australia, and also international students.

·         This Scholarship is given to commencing full-time Doctorate by Research students enrolled at the University of South Australia studying in the field of Interior Design.

·         Applicants must not have earned a PhD.

  • International students are required to have a Research Training Program International Stipend (RTPISTIP), a University President’s Scholarship (UPS), or an International Research Tuition Scholarship, and be able to study full-time (more information can be found on the website).
  • Applicants are expected to hold a first-class Honors degree (or its international equivalent).

  1. Applicants are required to submit a curriculum vitae and a written statement (max. 800 words) with their application outlining:
  • The proposal for research to be conducted as part of their PhD
  • How the research will significantly contribute to the development of the practice of the interior design profession
  • Career goals and future plans
  • How this scholarship will help them achieve their dreams

Shortlisted applicants will be required to attend a selection panel interview.
