The Rice Business Plan Competition, organized and hosted by the Rice Alliance for Technology and Entrepreneurship and the Jesse H. Jones Graduate School of Business at the University of Rice, is rich and large graduate-level student startup competition around the world. This competition aims to support initiative ideas and entrepreneurship from all over the globe.

This competition provides real-world experience, investment, mentorship, networking opportunity with the entrepreneurial ecosystem, and strategic missions and methods for launching a successful startup.  Graduate or recently graduated applicants with innovative ideas in Energy or Clean Technology, Tech, Life Sciences, Innovations such as advanced materials, composites, nanotechnology, consumer, etc. can go through this competition and get a prize. The total prize for this competition is about 1.5 Million Dollars.

Eligibilities:

  • Two degree-seeking applicants can apply for this competition.
  • First type applicants must currently have enrolled or graduate recently or have a degree, including (MBA, PhD, MD, JD, and Master degree).
  • Second type, currently (seeking a degree or enrolled on a full-time or part-time basis from 1 July 2019 through 30 June 2019) or recently graduated (applicants who are graduating after 1 September 2019) undergraduate-level applicants.
  • Applicants with different backgrounds can apply.
  • Only four team members can participate at the RBPC and at least one of those applicants must be a graduate degree-seeking student.
  • Applicants must have worked on an idea or new technology.

Ineligible applicants:

  • Applicants who are graduate before 1 September 2019
  • Applicants who participate in the previews competition of RBPC.
  • Teams and technologies that participate and present in the previews competition of RBPC.

  • 20 survey questions about team members.
  • Executive Summary about 2 to 5 pages in PDF format
  • 1 to 2-minute video about your startup (optional).
