Internship overview

The Climate Communications Team under the Strategic Communications Division of the Department of Global Communication has announced a “Public Information Internship” which is open to qualified international applicants. If you are interested in working at the United Nations and acquiring valuable skills and experience, this is a great fit for you to apply.

Interns will work five days per week (35 hours) under the guidance of the Lead of the Climate Communications Team.

Duties and Responsibilities

Routine responsibilities will depend upon the individual’s background and the internship period. The selected intern may undertake some of the following functions:

1. Research and analyze information on climate change, meet information from various sources, and help rate news value and other prospective impacts.
2. Support the implementation of DGC’s climate communications strategy and campaigns.
3 Specify, research, and draft content (text, photos, documents, and multimedia) for online publication, and caption videos and clips by utilizing tools such as the Adobe Creative Suite.
4. Help in managing the storage, arrangement, and maintenance of digital assets, contact lists, calendars, templates, and other important documents.
5. Help make digital assets, i.e., quote cards, for web and social media, according to established climate branding.
6. Do research on specialized sector media, e.g. climate, transport, food, oceans.
7. Keep and update media and subscription mailing lists for the Climate team and assist with distributing different information products.
8. Oversee media, fact-check and undertake related research work for climate communications campaigns and relevant information outputs.
9. Accomplish additional tasks that may be given by the Team Lead time and again.

Qualifications

  1. Education

To be eligible, applicants must meet the following conditions:

  • Be enrolled, or a graduate school program in journalism, communication, media studies, filmmaking, international relations or related field (second university degree or equivalent, or higher) or be studying in the final academic year of a bachelor degree ;
  • Or hold a university in the above-mentioned fields.
  • Have computer literacy in standard software applications.
  • Be sharply interested in the work of the United Nations with a personal commitment to its charter.
  • Have the proven ability to successfully communicate with people of diverse cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  1. Work Experience

Applicants to this Internship Program do not need to have professional work experience. Your education, training, and advanced coursework or skills should contribute to the work.

  1. Language competencies

Fluency in oral and written English is mandatory for the Internship Programme. Knowledge of an additional official UN language is an advantage.
