Introduction

Pulitzer Center, with the cooperation of Internews, launched the Persephone Miel Fellowship for journalists from developing countries to perform and conduct a kind of reporting they always wish to do and allow them to make international audiences for their stories and reports. This fellowship is designed for journalists from the international media pool who have less access to other fellowships, or their works are not routinely spread internationally. Miel Fellowship’s main objective is to engage in reporting from the applicant’s home country or following migrant communities from there to other locations. Female journalists and journalists from developing countries are will be preferred.

Eligibilities:

  • All journalists, writers, photographers, radio producers, filmmakers, staff journalists, freelancers, and media professionals from a wide range of countries can apply.
  • Applicants must be willing to report their home country situation for the international audience.
  • Females journalists and journalists from the developing world are highly encouraged to apply.
  • Must have excellent knowledge of English.
  • Applicants can apply with a team of 5 members.

Required documents:

  • Recent CV.
  • Reference letters (Three or more).
  • Project paper (no longer than 250 words).
  • Budget estimate paper.
  • Other supporting documents such as videos, YouTube links, photos, etc. in PDF, Doc format.
  • Three samples of published work.
  • Online application form.

Note: The size of each document must not exceed the 5 MB.

Selection process:

  • The Pulitzer Center will select the most deserving and ambitious fellows based on the work sample, the strength of their submitted proposals.
  • Projects covering systemic issues in the applicants’ home country and reflecting the overarching thesis rather than individual spot-reports will have high chances for considerations.

Terms and conditions:

  • The specific grant terms will be discussed during the application process as per the scope of the intended outcome and submitted work.
  • The first half payment of the grant will be done at the start of the fellowship, upon receipt of the required materials.
  • The second half payment will be made on the submission of the principal work for publication or broadcast.
  • The Successful applicants will come to Washington, D.C to meet with Pulitzer Center staff and journalists and participate in a two-day workshop related to the pending project and strategies for placement and outreach before start their project.
