The Graduate School of Engineering, Kyoto University of Advanced Science (KUAS) invites applicants from exceptional international students to apply for a master’s and Ph.D. program in Engineering. KUAS is one of the most prestigious Japanese universities. Eligibility requirements

Applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be eligible for the program:

  • Applicants should have a bachelor degree or equivalent qualification to apply for master’s program.
  • Have earned a master degree or equivalent qualification with specialized knowledge in fields related to mechanical and electronic engineering.

Specifically, the applicants should:

  • Be eager to address contemporary problems and discover solutions that contribute to the future of society on a global scale;
    have a broad understanding of fields relevant to mechanical and electrical engineering; and
    be aspired to tackle a host of issues by developing scientific and academic expertise in their chosen specializations.
  • Applicants should make sure they know the content of the program they want to apply for.
  • In general, applicants who wish to upgrade their abilities as engineers while learning to make full use of engineering techniques and to apply the most cutting-edge technologies when solving problems.

English language requirements

For the master and Ph.D. program, candidates must meet the minimum score required to ensure English proficiency.

  • Applicants are exempted from demonstrating English proficiency if they are from a native-English

Required English tests scores

  • TOEFL: 80 IBT
  • IELTS: 6.0
  • PTE: Academic (5)

Prior supervisor agreement

All candidates must contact the Admission Office through the online form in order to gain prior consent from at least one prospective supervisor before submitting the application. It is possible for them to select more than one supervisor (only applicable to the Master’s Program) in case they have multiple research interests.

  • Application essay (400-500 words for both)
  • Research plan (for both master and doctoral degrees)
  • Summary of research for the doctoral program
  • Official academic transcripts from all colleges or universities attended.
  • Diploma/certificate (expected) of graduation from all institutions of higher education
  • Proofs of English language proficiency (as per the scores above and for those who have been requested)
  • One letter of recommendation
  • Passport copy
