The GDN or Global Development Network presents a unique opportunity that is linked with the global development conference, for researches and graduates to participate in a productive competition for pushing the agenda of social science research for sustainable development forward. The competition process consists of participants sending blog posts to GDN, getting them evaluated and becoming the best among all the others.

The purpose and aim of this competition are giving examples that how good research and sound knowledge provide insights that can guide decisions, motivate actions, and yield successful results.


Upon winning the competition, the program provides the following:

  • €1000 cash prize
  • An invitation to travel to GDN’s 2019 Global Development Conference (23-25 October, Bonn)
  • Travel, hotel, and visa expenses covered

Important Details:

  • Your submission will through anti-plagiarism checks
  • The TOPIC/SUBJECT of your submission:
    • The topic of the 2019 Global Development Conference is “Knowledge for Sustainable Development: the Research-Policy Nexus”
    • The submission is meant to provide broader importance of research for sustainable development efforts which may include evaluation, operationalization, questioning of levels of sustainable development efforts.
    • The submissions are supposed to reference the specific challenges regarding sustainable development.
    • The applicants are meant to address high-quality, sound knowledge base, sustainable development research. In short, you are asked to identify one or several pieces of research that have inflicted or can influence sustainable development.
    • The applicants can also send their submissions on the negative points regarding the usefulness of current development researches.

  • The Selection Criteria
    • Your submission should be of high quality
    • The topic that you pick will have to be high importance that the other research author has come across.
    • It should be original and genuine
    • It should have examples and be specific
    • It should have clarity and professional word choices, syntax, and tone.



  • Be from a developing/transition country (living in or outside their origin country)
  • Under the age of 30 (as of August 1st, 2019)
  • At least have a Master’s Degree
  • Strong interest in research


How to apply:

Deadline:         15 August 2019

Location:         Bonn, Germany

  • To start your participation, write about the mentioned topic(s) between 800 – 1200 words in English, French, or Spanish.
  • Then, write a short bio
  • A soft copy of your degree’s transcript
