Fellowship overview

Applications are invited for the Marine Policy Fellowship Program in the United States. The Sea Grant Knauss Fellowship program aims to provide graduate students, who have an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions influencing those resources, with a unique educational and professional experience to engage with the fellows and further explore the subject matters. The Fellowship places the applicants with “hosts” in the legislative and executive unit of government in the Washington, D.C. area, for a one year paid fellowship.  So, if you meet the criteria and the program contents match your background, apply and be a 2022 FELLOW.

Application deadline: February 19, 2021 (to be a fellow in 2022)

Duration: February 1, 2022 – January 31, 2023

Notification of selected applicants: Mid-to late-summer 2021

Eligibilities

To be eligible for the program, applicants must meet these criteria:

  • Be enrolled towards a graduate program at any point between the beginning of the 2020 Fall Term (quarter, trimester, semester, etc.) and February 19, 2021.
  • The applicants must be pursuing the graduate degree at an accredited institution of higher education in the United States or U.S. territories.
  • Regardless of nationality; domestic and international students at accredited U.S. institutions are eligible.
  • Applicants must show an interest in ocean, coastal and Great Lakes resources and in the national policy decisions affecting those resources.

How to apply?

Applicants should complete several steps to apply for this fellowship. First, they should reach out to their state’s Sea Grant Program to get more information and inform them that they intend to apply. If their state does not have a Sea Grant Program, they can gain further information by contacting the National Sea Grant Office through e-mail or by phone (240-507-3712).

After you apply to your state’s Sea Grant Program, they will assess the applications, interview you and finally select up to 6 applicants for the National Sea Grant Program. After all these steps are completed, you can submit an online application with the required documents to the National Sea Grant Office through the link below.
