About the prize

Nominations for the 2021 Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize are now open inviting experts in research on learning, children, and youth around the world to nominate candidates for the Prize. The Prize recognizes remarkable scientific contributions of individuals from all scholarly disciplines that aim to transform the learning, development, and living conditions of children and youth.

Areas in which contributions are rewarded include, but are not limited to:

Educational sciences, psychology, economics, sociology, family studies, media studies, political sciences, linguistics, neurosciences, computer sciences, and medical sciences.

Nomination deadline: 14 March 2021

Awarding institution: Jacobs Foundation

Prize value

1 million Swiss Francs, of which 900,000 will be used for a research project and 100,000 will be used for other costs such as travel, dissemination, etc.

Eligibilities

  • Everyone who meets the condition above is legible to apply for the prize and should be nominated for the prize.
  • The prize will be awarded to a well-respected, exceptional researcher doing new research on learning and development of children and youth.
  • scholars from all countries who have achieved great breakthroughs in understanding, learning, learning variability, and/or child and youth development, and simultaneously have the potential to advance the field by actively conducting research are desired nominees for the award.
  • Self-nominations are not acceptable.

Selection

A jury of internationally renowned scholars will choose the winner is selected from among a pool of nominations received by the foundation.

Nomination process & documents

All documents relating to the nomination should be submitted online by the deadline. Incomplete nominations or documents received after this date cannot be considered. A complete nomination is comprised of:

  • Completed nomination form
  • Two-page nomination letter including an evaluation of the academic achievements of the nominee, making clear what scientific breakthroughs the nominee has made and how the nominee would contribute to the Klaus J. Jacobs Research Prize
  • nominee’s CV including the full list of publications (an essential part of nomination evaluation) as well as evidence of his or her scientific leadership
  • Information concerning possible future academic plans, fields of interest, and aspirations of the nominee.
