Opportunity Description
The World Academy of Science (TWAS) and Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) jointly offer a competitive grant for research collaboration around fighting the effects of COVID-19. Therefore, technologists and researchers from IsDB Member Countries are invited to submit their pioneering research proposals that can help solve the challenges that are directly or indirectly relate to Covid-19.

Grant value: the grant is worth 50,000 USD per group which becomes 100,000 USD per joint project.
Note: IsDB supports research collaboration consisting of two groups from different member countries working on the grant theme(s). and, the bank will one joint project/year.
Research fields
The following is a list of areas that groups could choose to work on:
- Epidemiology of COVID-19
- Dealing with repercussions of COVID-19
- Regional studies of COVID-19 infection
- Identification of likely sources of viruses: prevention of new zoonotic diseases
- HIV, SARS, MERS, COVID-19: lessons to learn on infections arising through species jump
- Evolution of viral disease: from animal to human and mutations of human strains
- Developing an emergency R&D response to any emerging infectious disease
- Discovery and development of diagnostics and therapeutics in viral outbreaks
- Dealing with viral infections: real-time data collection of the spread and preparation for future outbreaks
- Distant diagnosis and treatment
Eligibilities
To be eligible for receiving the grant, researchers must meet the following criteria:
- Each research group must have a Principal Investigator to represent and lead it (two PIs in total per group).
- Each Principle Investigator (PI) must be a citizen of an IsDB member state and have a Ph.D. with reasonable research experience and lead each research group.
- One PI MUST be from an IsDB Least Developed Member Country and the other from any of the eligible IsDB member countries.
- Each of the group members should work in a university or research institution in one of the IDB member countries and should be endorsed in the proposal by a PI.
- There is no age limit for applicants to apply.
- Applications from women scientists are particularly encouraged.
- Individual young researchers or leaders of research units presently in receipt of a TWAS Research Grant in the Basic Sciences are ineligible.

Points to consider:
- Each researcher may only submit one proposal for one kind of grant.
- Late or incomplete applications are not considered.
- It is highly advisable for you to apply as early as possible to allow more time for the processing of your applications.
