The Ireland higher education Authority (HEA) is delighted to announce the 2020 Call for Applications for the Ireland Government International Education Scholarship Programme for applicants from Non EU / EEA countries to study their Bachelor, Graduate and Doctoral degrees at an Irish higher education institutions.

Number of Scholarships: 60

Award Value: 10,000 Euro

Fields of study:

The scholarship programme covers all fields of study at three levels and applicants from non-EU/EEA countries can apply to this scholarship.

The scholarship may be in the framework of:

  • The final year of an undergraduate programme;
  • One year of a taught master’s degree programme or;
  • One year of a research programme (i.e. one year of a 2-year graduate Degree or a 3-4 year doctoral programme).

Scholarship benefits:

  • € 10,000 stipend for the whole one-year study period which will be disbursed on two installments
  • Full tuition fees and other enrollment costs at the institution are covered


Further scholarship conditions:

  • Scholarships may be granted for study across all disciplines, subject to the availability of places.
  • The HEA will, overall, seek to ensure that there is gender-balance in the cohort of students to whom scholarships are granted.
  • Due to the very large volume of applications giving feedback to unsuccessful candidates shall not be possible.
  • Applications are encouraged from under-represented cohorts.
  • Successful students are to start studies in September/October 2020.
  • Later enrolments will only be considered for PhD awardees.
  • Students and their host HEIs may need to attend a welcoming ceremony for GOI-IES awardees around this time.

Qualification requirements:

– Possessing academic, personal, professional and creative excellence

– Enjoying communication skills

– Having done extracurricular activities such as voluntary, humanitarian work, politics, arts and sports experiences

– Having strong qualities for pursuing their higher education in Ireland that shows how the program fits into your long-run goals

– Personal Statement demonstrating that:

– How the applicants display the benefit of becoming a GOI-IES scholar;

– How they would extend themselves beyond their projects/studies to maximize their academic and cultural exchange experience; and

– The extent to which they have a long-term interest in the host country

– Two references submitted via online application portal
