About Integrated water resources management Master Program (IWRM) at German-Kazakh University in Almaty (GKU)

Young professionals from Central Asia and Afghanistan are invited to submit documents for the “Integrated Water Resources Management” Master Program (MA IWRM) at the German-Kazakh University in Almaty (GKU). The Program is aimed to train professionals from Central Asia and Afghanistan and to share interdisciplinary approaches in water management to counter all the relevant institutional, political, legal, ecological and economic issues in Central Asia.

According to the Afghanistan ministry of education announcement, Kazakh-German University with the cooperation of UNESCO has offered two scholarships funded by the Swiss government for two eligible employees of the Ministry of education of Afghanistan. The deadline to apply for this scholarship is March 19. applicants should be completely familiar with the English language.

Who is eligible:

 

  • Have a Bachelor’s degree in Natural Sciences and Agricultural Sciences
  • Graduates in Economics, Social Sciences, and Humanities with a minimum 3 years of practical work experience in water resources management, environmental studies or water-related projects.
  • Students and young water specialists from Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Afghanistan, and Kazakhstan
  • A sufficient level of Russian and English language proficiency

Prerequisites

If you haven’t already taken these courses, then you need to take these courses in GKU:

  • Hydrology
  • Ecology
  • International integrative processes

Requirements:

  • Bachelor Degree Diploma
  • Medical Certificate 086 with X-Ray
  • ID card or passport (officially translated in Russian)
  • 6 passport-sized photos (30*40  mm)
  • CV
  • TOEFL certificate 560 or IELTS 6.0 or passing KZ State Exam in English
  • An Essay about “Water issues in Central Asia and Afghanistan and possible solutions” (2 pages, “Times New Roman”, 12, English)

Application process:

  • submit a full package of document to the admission office
  • Take the exam of the ministry of education and science of Kazakhstan
  • Take an English language test and interview in English
  • Apply for DAAD grant
