IDRC offers a research award for researchers from developing countries, Canada citizens and permanent residents of Canada currently studying/ have completed their master degree or PhD at a recognized university to do their research in Ottawa, Canada.

Eligibilities

  • The research must be focusing on one or more developing countries
  • Successful candidates are not allowed to obtain any other scholarship supported by Canadian government, or support from any federal government.
  • Meet the eligibility criteria of the program you are applying.

Those who want to do their research in Ottawa, must meet the following requirements:

  • Have Canada citizenship, permanent residency of Canada or citizenship of a developing country
  • Currently studying or have completed their master or doctoral degree at a recognized university within last three years.
  • Developing countries citizens must have a work permit for full time work in Canada valid until the end of 2019.

Eligibility for sub Saharan Africa in Nairobi, Kenya:

  • The applicants must hold Kenya citizenship pursuing or have completed (in last 3 years) a master degree or PhD at a distinguished university.

Candidates applying for research in the countries listed, their applications may need further approval in IDRC:

Afghanistan, Congo (Democratic Republic of) Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Gabon, Gaza, Guinea-Bissau, Maldives, Micronesia, Monserrat, Myanmar, Sudan, Suriname, Venezuela, West Bank, Zimbabwe, some small island states, including Comoros, São Tomé and Principe, Saint Helena, Timor-Leste, and the Pacific Islands (Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu, Wallis & Futuna)
