Overview

Girl Rising is calling for submission for its 2022 future rising fellows program from young environmental justice activists. The six-month, virtual fellowship convenes individuals at the ages of 17-24 who are working on environmental justice storytelling with an emphasis on women and girls. So, if you are a young individual working on environmental justice, this is a thrilling opportunity to join.

Mode: online (not full-time, non-residential requiring 5-10 hours weekly time commitment)

The objective of this fellowship is to support and empower a network of young people working in environmental justice or storytelling while focusing on women and girls and climate change, and through them, to raise and foster stories of women and girls working in communities on the frontlines of environmental justice or climate change, around the world.

Benefits

  • In the course of this program, fellows will take part in training, mentorship, and events to develop leadership, agency and civic involvement.
  • Besides, participants will produce a non-fiction narrative project as a result of six months of work.
  • Each fellow will work with a leading mentor from an established field and varying disciplines relevant to h/her work.
  • Fellows will have to the chance to attend Girl Rising’s Virtual International Day of the Girl Summit in October 2021.
  • Upon completion, Fellows’ work will be displayed on the Future Rising Digital Story Hub and widely broadcast in a ‘group show.’
  • Financially, fellows will receive a $2,000 stipend and have the chance to apply for an additional $1,000 funding for project costs or materials.
  • Girl rising will feature and publish fellows’ work on its online outlets.

Eligibilities

  • Young people at the ages of 17-24 from across the world can apply.
  • Candidates should prepare and submit a short proposal or a description of their work as part of their application.
  • The proposal/work sample can be in any medium or format and should shed light on the experiences or women or girls’ efforts to reduce the effect or causes of climate change or adversely the effect on climate change on women/girls.
  • Some examples of work format could include (long-form article, short film or documentary, photo essay, digital artwork, animation, research paper, etc.)
  • Stories coming from vulnerable communities are especially welcome.
  • Candidates need to have a considerable command of the English language.

Requirements

This fellowship is designed to conform to the existing work or studies of candidates not barring them from their current responsibility.

Good internet connectivity is required for fellows in order to work with mentors, other fellows and join inline convenings.
