Program overview

Facebook AI is accepting applications for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Residency Program_ a one-year research training position intended to give participants straight experience with artificial intelligence research while working in Facebook AI.

Under this program, the applicant will work with an AI Researcher and Engineer in pair who will both guide his/her project. Besides, the trainees will choose a research problem of mutual interest and then craft new deep learning techniques to solve it. Participants’ responsibilities

They ought to:

  • Learn how to carry out research in deep learning and AI.
  • Have knowledge of prior work and current literature.
  • Work along with mentors to uncover problem(s) of interest and create novel AI techniques.
  • Transfer ideas into practical code (in frameworks such as PyTorch).
  • Prepare research findings in the form of a scholarly paper or open-source projects.

Eligibility conditions

Minimum criteria:

  • Currently hold, or be expected to earn, a Bachelor’s degree in a STEM field such as Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Coding experience in a programming language, such as Python or C/C++.
  • Must obtain work permission in the country of employment at the time of hire, and keep ongoing work permit during the work.

Preferable Qualifications:

  • Exposure to and a background in the field of AI research as shown by research projects, university coursework, or self-study.
  • Completed coursework in: Linear Algebra, Probability, Calculus, or equivalent.
  • Understanding of learning platforms such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, or Jax.
  • Momentous contributions to open-source projects, indicating solid math, engineering, statistics, or machine learning skills.
  • Experience communicating intricate research in a clear, short, and actionable manner.
  • Previous experience in machine learning is a big strength, but it considers accepting applicants from a diverse range of backgrounds.
  • Applicants from areas unrelated to machine learning such as (but not limited to) math, physics, finance, economics, linguistics, computational social science, neuroscience, and bioinformatics are also welcome to apply.
