About the award

The ministry of Women’s Affairs in Afghanistan has launched the Champion Award for the individuals who has played an important role for promoting women’s role in government and in society.

The main purpose of this award is to recognize the individuals with best leadership skills whose work has impacted in increasing women participation in government and society.

Who can apply?

  • Be Afghan citizen and currently residing in Afghanistan
  • Not be under 18 years of Age
  • Be currently employed in the government or in private sector
  • Not been awarded for their work in gender development previously
  • Be based in Kabul, Herat, Balkh, Kandahar or Nangarhar

Who are not eligible to apply?

  • Leaders and /or members of political parties, member of champion initiative screening and selection committee

Required documents:

  • Copy of national Identity card (Tazkira)
  • Completed Award application form
  • Personal story (two page)
  • Other supporting documents
  • Links to social media accounts
  • Reference letter from nominator

What will the winner win?

The winner will attend to the award ceremony in Kabul and receive the following:

  • Plaque
  • Capacity building trainings
  • Gifts from corporate sponsors

 

 

Award categories

There are two type of categories for this award: government and private sector award

Criteria for governmental sector award:

Individuals who :

  • have proven commitment to support women
  • advance women capacity building in public policy making and procedures
  • created a women friendly working environment
  • have personal influence
  • be willing to get publicly recognized
  • has not received any award in gender development during past 10 years
  • priority is given to the individuals who are supporting women, in spite of having limited resources, governmental / political connection or support
  • must have started the from their own family to promote women’s right
  • have good image in his working organization or society

Private sector criteria:

  • have social impact
  • be willing to stand for women
  • prove personal leadership skill
  • have personal influence
  • passionate to get recognized publicly
  • not have been award in past 10 year in gender development area of their work
  • priority is given to the individuals who are supporting women, in spite of having limited resources, governmental / political connection or support
  • must have started the from their own family to promote women’s right
  • have good image in his working organization or society

 

Application procedures and methods:

The applicants can apply in two ways:

  • apply directly to the champion award
  • nominate someone who is eligible or be nominated by someone else such as your director
