Are you a woman with a degree or background in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) and passionate about your study? If yes, you could secure a scholarship to study for your master’s degree at one of the prominent UK universities in a STEM field. British Council, in partnership with UK universities, offers master’s scholarship programs in the academic year 2024-25 to benefit women from the Americas, South Asia, East Asia, Central Asia, Wider Europe, and ASEAN countries to undertake a degree in STEM. Women who demonstrate financial need and aspire to inspire future generations to study STEM are eligible for this scholarship.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants meeting the following requirements are qualified:

  • Applicants must identify as a woman
  • Can enroll in a course of study in the UK for 2024–2025
  • Hold a passport and permanent residency in eligible countries
  • Meet UK Higher Education Institution’s entry requirements
  • Completed undergraduate degree or pending final awards
  • Demonstrate financial need
  • Not receiving funding from other sources
  • Limited international exposure
  • No previous UK degree or recent UK residency
  • Specify course and institution preference
  • Meet English language requirements
  • Academically capable of postgraduate study
  • Relevant work experience or interest in the subject area
  • Committed to capacity-building in the home country
  • Maintain contact with the British Council
  • Act as ambassador for the UK and engage in activities
  • Plan to engage women and girls in STEM
  • Consent to data sharing for assessment and promotion
  • Return to home country for at least two years after scholarship

Countries Eligible

Following are the countries that are eligible to apply for the 2024-25 British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM:

East Asia: Viet Nam, Malaysia, Myanmar, Laos, Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Cambodia, Hong Kong, Brunei Darussalam, Singapore, and Timor-Leste

South Asia: India, Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Nepal

Americas: Brazil and Mexico

Wider Europe: Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, Montenegro, North Macedonia, and Serbia

Who is NOT Eligible?

The following people are not eligible for the 2024-25 British Council Scholarships:

  • Hold dual British citizenship.
  • Are an employee, former employee, or relative of His Majesty’s Government or British Council Scholarships for Women in STEM.
  • Currently receive financial support or funding for study in the UK from any other source.
  • Previously studied in the UK with funding from UK government-funded or institutional scholarships/bursaries.

Evaluation Process

A coordinated selection panel between the Higher Education Institutions (HEI) and the British Council will choose the bursary recipients. Applicants will hear directly from the respective university on their application results.
