Opportunity Description

International applicants who will study for their higher degree (Master/Ph.D.) by research at Flinders University can apply for Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (AGRTPS). The AGRTPS covers an international tuition fee offset, Overseas Health Care, and a living stipend.

This scholarship, sponsored by the Commonwealth, is offered to international students who are interested in pursuing their higher degree by research in Australia. It is a competitive scholarship that selects candidates based on academic research training, indicators, and performance.

Up to 6 AGRTPS are available annually for international students, and the scholarship round is highly competitive.  Candidates who demonstrate outstanding aptitude for independent research are eligible to apply for this opportunity because it is an academic merit, academic research training research indicators, and performance scholarship.

The scholarship duration is three years for a Research Doctorate and up to two years for a Research Master’s degree. Successful applicants should undertake full-time study and must be starting a higher degree by research in Australia for the first time.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants should meet the following requirements to apply for AGRTPS 2024:

  • Applicants should be a citizen of any country except New Zealand
  • Applicants should not hold Australian citizenship, Australian permanent resident status, or New Zealand citizenship
  • They should start studying for a higher degree full-time by researching in Australia for the first time in the awarding year.
  • Scholarships are also available for students who started their higher degree by research in the last year but, due to subsequent enrolment and the timing of their admission application, could not apply for an AGRTPS can apply for 2024.
  • International applicants who started a higher degree by research and terminated that enrolment within six months of starting may be eligible for this scholarship.
  • Applicants should intend to enroll in an area of research in which the University has particular strengths and resources and has attracted external funding.
  • Satisfy all entry requirements for a higher degree by research, such as English proficiency levels per the English Language Proficiency Requirements for HDR Candidature.

  • Supervisor agreement letter to supervise you if successful (find a supervisor here)
  • Applicant’s publication list: Send up to five publications with a cover sheet to the Flinders University supervisor. Remember, do not send more than five publications. Additional publications should be mentioned in the applicant’s CV, and submit only English publications. Other language publications will be accepted and published as government agency reports.
  • Degree certificate and transcript must be in the English language
  • Research proposal 500 words (mention the problem, solutions, hypothesis or question, and research methodology).
  • Two academic reference forms should be sent to rhdscholarships@flinders.edu.au by the deadline.
  • CV

How to Apply?

To apply for AGRTPS, first, apply for admission to a Higher Degree by Research (Master of Arts or Ph.D. by research). Then, send an application to the International RHD Scholarship Group. Please follow these steps for the Admission Application and Scholarship Application guides:

  • International applicants should apply via Studylink for admission at Flinders University.
  • After reading all guidelines and information, complete registration by entering the Apply Now tab below.
  • After completing the registration, log back into that portal to complete the admission application.
  • Please check for the Flinders student ID created within 1 hour after registration submission. Note this ID number.

  • First, activate the account using the Student ID from the registration process and the date of birth provided by entering the link below.
Account Activation

 

  • After activating the account, wait for a Flinders Authentication Name (FAN).
  • Then, apply to the international HDR Scholarship Group:
  1. Applicants should log in to their OKTA dashboard through the quick links on the Flinders website.
  2. Select Student System.
  3. Select the My Scholarship tab.
  4. Tab on the Create a New Scholarship application button
  5. Select 2024 from the search and then choose the International RHD Scholarship Group.
