The Global Migration Film Festival (GMFF) which is launched in 2016 by IOM, the UN Migration Agency, is inviting professional and emerging filmmakers to submit original films and documentaries to depict the festival theme: The Promise and Challenges of Migration, and the Positive Contributions Migrants Make to Their New Communities.

The program is targeted to use films as educational tools helping viewers make a deeper understanding of migrants and their realities, needs and viewpoints. In addition that takes into consideration the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as all countries work to meet them. Selected productions will be screened for a variety of audiences from about 100 countries around the world during IOM’s Global Migration Film Festival.

Competition theme: Submitted films should present the difficulties and promises of immigration, as well as what changes and benefaction newcomers will bring to the communities which they inter.

Categories:

• Full-Length (Minimum 41 minutes)
• Short films (Maximum 40 minutes)

Regulations:

• Films can be any type such as feature, documentary, animation, etc. and any lengths.
• They should be in English. If it is in other languages, they must have subtitles in English.
• Date of Films production must be on or after January 1, 2015.
• Individual who has the legal right must submit the film
• Films to be shot only with smartphones.

Submission guidelines:

To apply, candidates must submit their film and the details through Filmfreeway which is available on the website.

Important: The filmmakers of selected films will be required to provide relevant still images, a trailer of the film, their biography, director’s photo and subtitle transcripts. Films may be displayed in various locations such as cinemas, universities worldwide, open-air theatres in the desert in Niger and detention centers in Libya, concert halls or along popular migration routes such as the trans-Sahara corridor. Therefore, filmmakers must give the legal right to IOM to use the works submitted.
