About the competition

Application is now open for the Automated Maintenance of Protection Systems Challenge (AMPS Challenge) for innovators and engineers from all around the world. The competition is held by Freelancer, in partnership with Arrow Electronics, being a first-of-its-kind competition that seeks to support ideas or initiatives that make the power systems more reliable.

Therefore, Freelancer invites innovators and engineers worldwide to share their ideas and solutions for furthering Reclamation’s mission of managing, devising and protecting water and related resources, through increasing its efficiencies in overseeing and testing of electric power protection systems.

How does the challenge work?

It is conducted in two phases as follows:

Phase 1:

In this phase, individuals or teams can make submissions, in the form of a whitepaper, to deliver innovative solutions that will improve the reliability of power systems by automating protection system testing. Hence, up to 10 entries will get $10,000.00 each and the opportunity to advance to Phase 2.

Phase 2:

The solvers will develop a lab prototype for functional exhibition and functional testing. Testing will be done in the Denver area. The best prototype will win up to $100,000 USD. Additionally, solvers that outperform in individual benchmarks will receive up to $10,000 USD in awards.
