Reporters Without Borders/Reporters Sans Frontiers (RSF) is providing a new “Time Out and Research Scholarship” which is awarded to journalists worldwide who are working in the war zone and crisis areas and are subject to risks and obstacles for their work.

RSF is accepting applications from journalists from the war & conflict zone to stay sometime away from their stressful working area and come to Berlin, Germany for a six-month scholarship.

RSF scholarship provides:

• Travel expense
• An apartment for living
• A monthly grant of 1,000 Euro
• A pass for free public transportation in Germany during the scholarship

Furthermore:

Research project:

During the 2020 RSF Research Scholarship for Journalists, you will work on an investigative research project of your own choice with the following qualities:

• The project should be of a journalistic nature (in pictures, sound or writing)
• It can be undertaken in collaboration with an international medium, along with a stay abroad
• RSF will publish the results of your project and if possible deliver them at a public events

Eligibility requirements

Journalists can apply for this research scholarship if they:

• Work in a war zone or crisis area, or if they recently reported on a specifically sensitive issue and are now exposed to threat or harassment.
• Need time to concentrate and work on a new journalistic project during the scholarship period.
• Have a good command of English or German.
• Applicants should have sufficient work experience as a journalist.
• Have a strong intention to return to their home country after the six-month scholarship period.

Result publication

Applicants will be notified of the decision by mid-July at the latest.
