Position summary

Citizen Organization for Advocacy and Resilience (COAR) is hiring 11 community mobilizers for Kunduz province who will work to implement the designed community Project. Eligible candidates may read the details below and apply accordingly.

Job Description:

The duties and responsibilities of the incumbents include:

  • Commence baseline research of chosen communities, and continuously monitor societal change and new social information related to community empowerment;
  • Determine prospective leaders, community elders, and/or organizers;
  • Motivate and stimulate potential leaders to speak with their fellow community members regarding the importance of education.
  • Take actions seeking to break down passivity, apathy, and mentalities of letting others do things for them;
  • Increase awareness of the community members around the need for education;
  • Help community members to determine needs and to create solutions, as well as specify priorities  and analyze their problems;
  • Encourage community members to unite for action aimed at resolving their difficulties and to plan, execute and oversee action that they undertake themselves;
  • Help community leaders gain management skills and knowledge in how to get community members involved, organized and enthused;
  • Build trust, tolerance and co-operation among community members;
  • Help the community in attaining existing outside resources & warning of the negative effects of them in case of too much dependency;
  • Encourage broad participation by all community members; with particular focus on those who are usually forgotten, sidelined and overlooked in community decision-making;
  • Support the community in gaining information and knowledge that they may access via governmental and non-governmental organizations, through extension and outreach programs; and
  • Assist the community members in strengthening their own capacity and strength to the extent where they no longer require the services of mobilizers.

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree holder.
  • A minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience in social mobilization.
  • Ability to work at the camp level.
  • Strong report and planning skills
  • Robust local community knowledge.
  • Proficiency in local language and vigorous working knowledge of English & Urdu language (preferable)
  • Working experience with community-based projects
  • Ability to travel to the project fields within the allocated camp/district
  • Both individual and teamwork ability to undertake tasks in a fast-paced atmosphere.
  • Exercise flexibility, and be willing to do urgent tasks when required in informal time.
  • Understanding and experience with keeping school record, methodologies, and approaches (including data gathering both quantitative, qualitative as well as participatory)
  • Should be self-disciplined and motivated critical thinkers who are willing to work under stress to catch deadlines.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, including patience, tact, eagerness to listen, and respect for colleagues.
